The Orange County High School of the Arts (OCHSA), the nationally recognized arts school that provides bright and talented students with a creative and challenging educational environment presented its Gala 2012: 25th Anniversary Edition on March 10, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency Irvine.

More than 700 supporters of the arts were in attendance at the prestigious black-tie event, which raised more than $1,005,000 and a net total of approximately $705,000 in support of OCHSA’s award-winning arts education programs. OCHSA must raise more than $5 million each year—approximately $3,200 per student—to continue offering a comprehensive arts program.

The Fund A Dream portion of the evening raised more than $199,500 with key gifts from Marybelle and Paul Musco, Maureen and Mike Mekjian, Julie and Doug Garn, Carole and Robert Follman, Margie and Lew Webb, and more. Additionally, the live auction raised more than $123,500 and the silent auction raised more than $133,300.

At Gala 2012: 25th Anniversary Edition,  guests experienced an exclusive, one-of-a-kind concert performance featuring more than 200 of OCHSA’s fabulous student artists with a dazzling array of Tony, Emmy and Grammy-nominated alumni guest stars from the past 25 years, including Matthew Morrison (Tony, Emmy and Golden Globe Award-nominated star of the hit TV show GLEE), Susan Egan (Tony Award-nominated actress, Beauty and the Beast) and Krysta Rodriguez (The Addams Family: A New Musical on Broadway) in support of OCHSA’s tuition-free arts and academic programs.

Major sponsors and guests mingled with OCHSA Foundation Board of Directors, OCHSA Foundation Advisory Board, and OCHSA Board of Trustees at a silent auction featuring an impressive array of unique and rate items and experiences. Following the silent auction, guests enjoyed a dinner, student and alumni performance, and “Buy It Now” auction featuring student and alumni-focused opportunities.

The nationally recognized Orange County High School of the Arts (OCHSA) provides a creative, challenging and nurturing environment that offers bright and talented students unparalleled preparation for higher education and a profession in the arts.  Established in 1987, the school currently serves more than 1,750 students in grades 7-12.  OCHSA offers students the opportunity to focus on one of 12 arts conservatories offered, including classical/contemporary dance, classical voice, commercial dance, creative writing, culinary arts, film and television, instrumental music, integrated arts, international dance, music and theatre, production and design and visual arts.

OCHSA is one of the top scoring academic schools in the State of California. The school has an API score of 907 and offers one of the top six public high school academic programs in Orange County. It is the only specialized arts program of its kind in the region to offer tuition-free academic and arts instruction to students from Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties. The non-profit school relies solely on private and corporate donations, totaling $5 million annually, to fund the 11 arts conservatories offered.
