Back Bay Bistro at Newport Dunes hosted the Kickoff Party for the Lobsterfest at Newport Beach on Thursday, March 22, with a special Lobster Tasting.
The Tasting Menu included lobster mac and cheese from The Bungalow Restaurant in Corona del Mar, Lobster Tacos from The Beachcomber at Crystal Cove and Tunisian Pizza, Seafood Chowder, salad and dessert provided by Back Bay Bistro.
With almost 50 supporters in attendance, the event was designed to kick off promotion for the Lobsterfest at Newport Beach, welcome sponsor Bob Garrett from State Farm Insurance in Corona del Mar and recognize beneficiary Leadership Tomorrow.
The winner of the ‘name the lobster contest’ was also announced during the evening’s festivities. A contest had been held on Facebook over the past month to name the official mascot (lobster) for the Lobsterfest and the winner Julie Mellin Simonson was awarded two tickets to the 2012 Lobsterfest for the name Lido the Lobster.
In 2012, Leadership Tomorrow will host the event and the Make A Wish-Orange County will be a beneficiary. Moving forward into 2013, the Lobsterfest Foundation with its own Board of Directors will host the event which will continue to provide scholarships for participants in Leadership Tomorrow and benefit one additional charity to be selected on an annual basis.
The Hyatt Regency Newport Beach, Back Bay Bistro, Bacchus Group, Patina Restaurant, The House of Blues and Hornblower Cruises and Events also contributed raffle prizes for the Kickoff Party.
The Lobsterfest at Newport Beach will be held on August 11, 2012 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Newport Dunes.
