“Funny Money”, a comedy by Ray Cooney, directed by Greg Cohen is now playing at the Huntington Beach Playhouse.

“Funny Money” premiered in London, England in 1994 at the Churchill Theater. It is the old “wrong briefcase is picked up by accident and is discovered it is filled with money”  premise, with lots of  surprises and twists, mistaken identities, and nail biting moments.  Think Lucy Ricardo in the closet trying to figure her way out of a pickle with Ricky in the living room type humor. It has been called,  “typical Ray Cooney hilarity and non-stop frantic action”.

Henry Perkins is on his way home from work, riding London’s tube. He picks up the wrong briefcase and discovers the mistake after he has exited and reaches in to get his gloves. Meanwhile, his wife is at home preparing and intimate birthday dinner with close friends. Henry devises a plan to leave the country immediately with his new found fortune, but finds it’s easier said than done.

If the title sounds familiar, the play was adapted into a movie starring Chevy Chase in 2006.
